Abstract

In many fields of our society, AI technology is being rapidly developed and incorporated into various areas. These advances in AI bring the organizations to be automated by affecting their decision-making process. In particular, many countries endeavors applying AI to military operations. The objective of this paper is to analyze the impact of AI technology development on C2, related to Tactical Ballistic Missile Defense (TBMD) operation, and to suggest how C2 should be changed in an AI-driven environment. The levels of AI applied to TBMD operation are classified from zero to four according to the following criteria: the degree of AI technology in the TBMD operation process, the degree of decentralization of C2, and the degree of autonomy of subordinate units. Through the case study, this paper discusses the current TBMD level on the Iron Dome of Israel.
